I can understand reticence to comment, given the circumstances you have referred to above.
People like myself often feel the necessity to point out we are pro-women, not anti-trans, and keeping in mind that the vitriol works both ways, it is important to recognise that not all people claiming to be standing up for free speech are really doing that but are really just genuinely prejudiced. However, from first sight, Almut’s case seems to be genuine.
I am appalled at the state of things in education in relation to this issue, at all levels of education systems. As someone who helped introduce sex ed into schools in England several years ago, I feel the need to point out that back then it was about reducing teen pregnancies and abortions and assuring kids they were not evil or dirty when going through normal stages of puberty, dispelling myths and fallacies, usually of religious or internet origin. I understand things have changed lot since then. There was nothing about trans issues or self gender id. They just did not exist as part of the conversation at that time. I am very glad that as things were then, I did not find myself in the position that Almut and others are facing, whether in primary, secondary or tertiary education frameworks. However, as a whistleblower in one instance, albeit in very different context, I sympathise with their experience.
I am equally bewildered by the idea that there can be a fight to ban conversion therapy torture of gay people on moral grounds, while simultaneously, on the same principle of supposed “freedom”, there are those who fight for the right to physically mutilate young people. In Western Australia, where I am, gay conversion therapy is banned, as it should be, and the trans issues are not quite as acute as in Britain at the moment. However, while I am very cautious not to fan the flames of prejudice the right-wing movement is inciting at this moment, I do genuinely feel that this matter is poisoning the true spirit of debate and stifling genuine freedom of expression.

Gender used to be the child friendly word denoting somone's sex to avoid the child finding out the other meaning of it. It's a no brainer to name the act of procreation the same word as the two body types that allow procreation. Now because of the trans lobby we have had to separate the two meanings in fear of the definition of sex going down the toilet too. In this new miserable world, what is gender? If it's subjective, then theres no such thing. It is wise to invent new words than to use old ones for new meanings. Sex isn't assigned at birth it's recorded. Also I'm surprised that Dawkins hasn't mentioned any problems he has with the so called pronoun of "they". Wtf does that even mean. Not sure where you're from, but I have to say that, in the UK at least, 'they' didn't become used only recently and only for the purpose of discussing non-binary people; it's been around for as long as I've been speaking English (all my life) to talk about someone when we don't known their gender (for instance, someone you haven't met). "Someone stole my bike - they took it from right outside my room!" etc.

I can understand reticence to comment, given the circumstances you have referred to above.
People like myself often feel the necessity to point out we are pro-women, not anti-trans, and keeping in mind that the vitriol works both ways, it is important to recognise that not all people claiming to be standing up for free speech are really doing that but are really just genuinely prejudiced. However, from first sight, Almut’s case seems to be genuine.
I am appalled at the state of things in education in relation to this issue, at all levels of education systems. As someone who helped introduce sex ed into schools in England several years ago, I feel the need to point out that back then it was about reducing teen pregnancies and abortions and assuring kids they were not evil or dirty when going through normal stages of puberty, dispelling myths and fallacies, usually of religious or internet origin. I understand things have changed lot since then. There was nothing about trans issues or self gender id. They just did not exist as part of the conversation at that time. I am very glad that as things were then, I did not find myself in the position that Almut and others are facing, whether in primary, secondary or tertiary education frameworks. However, as a whistleblower in one instance, albeit in very different context, I sympathise with their experience.
I am equally bewildered by the idea that there can be a fight to ban conversion therapy torture of gay people on moral grounds, while simultaneously, on the same principle of supposed “freedom”, there are those who fight for the right to physically mutilate young people. In Western Australia, where I am, gay conversion therapy is banned, as it should be, and the trans issues are not quite as acute as in Britain at the moment. However, while I am very cautious not to fan the flames of prejudice the right-wing movement is inciting at this moment, I do genuinely feel that this matter is poisoning the true spirit of debate and stifling genuine freedom of expression.

Bumpkin, . . ,er, excuse me, Youngkin, endorsing the local nabob Segura for state senate.
