So disappointed that your favorite comic author isn't the late great mourned Malcolm Bradbury. Check out his masterpiece, Rates of Exchange, and its companion Why Come to Slaka? Rolling on the floor funny. For humor embedded in perceptive accounts of the natural world, try Redmond O'Hanlon, editor at LRB: In Trouble Again, and Through the Wilds of Borneo. James Fenton is featured in the former. Famously, when invited to go by O' Hanlon (with whom he had previously trekked), his response was: I wouldnt go to High Wyckham with you. He ended up going to the Brazil l trip....and half way through the truly exhausting trip changed his mind and returned. Lots of laughs and lots of wonderful observations about nature. ( for more great writing on the tropics, read Teddy Roosevelt's memoir of his trip with Rondon )
